I just bought UT from gog with the recent sale, and was surprised that "UnrealTournament.exe" pops up with a request to 'allow this program to make changes to this pc' every time it's run.

Is this on purpose? Why? It really impacts my desire to play it. As far as I know, UT shouldn't require access to anything remotely important, so I'm really wondering why this request is forced on the user.

If not, would like to hear how things have gone wrong as well as a way to fix the issue.

edit: for some reason the game came with the compatibility option "Run this program as an administrator". Unchecking that solves the issue.

I'll try to guess. Probably, you have installed the game either to %SystemDrive%\Program files or to the %SystemDrive%'s root directory. Both cases will trigger UAC warning on the run attempt.

Make something like C:\Games\GOG, grant theeself full permissions to that directory and reinstall the game to that location.

The game is installed on a disk separate from my C drive entirely.

All I had to do was right-click the game's .exe, go to the compatability tab and deselect "Run this program as an administrator".

I'm just surprised the game came like this out of the box, so to speak. The game's .exe still has a Windows admin shield in the corner of the icon, too.
