Unreal Gold boots up to a black screen and then crashes shortly thereafter. Any ideas on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Meanwhile, Unreal 2 runs flawlessly...

That didn't work unfortunately.

It may also be worth pointing out that this is definitely a Windows 11 thing, since this game worked just fine on Windows 10 until my computer forced the update.

"didn't work" isn't a problem description. unfortunately. Sooo... marking this as SOLVED! Yay. Good day Sir. ([mutters]gosh... when will the last fool die?)

PS "this game worked just fine on Windows 10" LMAO a 25yo executable stopped working probably cos windoooze stopped hauling around a gigaton of compatibility sh*t which enabled that piece of ancient crap to screech its cogs in '24.. Yep, people ARE d*umb. And deserve all the sh*t that befalls them.

Did you try to change renderer to software?

If you can't get to the settings at all, open unreal.ini file in System game directory.
Then, change GameRenderDevice property in section of the file:

[Engine.Engine]
GameRenderDevice=SoftDrv.SoftwareRenderDevice
