Between 640*400, 800*600 and 1024*768, of course I'm usually inclined to choose the latter. But it seems in Unreal Gold with each step towards higer resolutions, the GUI elements, mainly the translator window is shrinking, and I much prefer the font and window size of 640*400 to the tiny writing in higher resolutions. Even the one in 800*600 seems small already.

I noticed there is an option to double the font size, but that seems to refer only to the menu font, not to the in-game translator GUI. Is there a way to have a higher resolution than 640*400 and still keep the original size of translator window and font, or do I have to choose between the two?

The unofficial 227 patch has a setting to make the translator and its text bigger.

Ah. Can you apply it retroactively, half-way through the campaign, or would I have to start a new game?

According to the FAQ, you probably have to start a new game. You could use cheats to spawn to the map you were playing and to add back weapons and inventory items.

By now I'm already quite accustomed to the 800*600 compromise, and since reading isn't all that important anyway and the graphics aren't that pretty on 1024*768 either, I think I can live with it for the time being. But I'll keep your suggestion in mind for future reference. Thanks a lot! :)

Where is this setting? I have patch 227i installed and can't find the setting to increase translator text size.
