1: Does the GoG version of UT2004 use a cd key? If so, how does that work? Does a new key get generated every time someone buys it or something? I'll probably have more questions on this topic.
2: Does Unreal 2 come with multiplayer?
3: Can you play against people with retail and/or Steam copies?
4: Do people still play all of these games?

1. The GOG.com version of UT2k4 does use a CDkey, but they're all the same and you'll never have to worry about it.
2. Unreal 2 does come with Multiplayer (it says so on the games page)
3. You can play against people with retail and steam copies
4. People still play UTGOTY and UT2k4 for sure.

I couldn't say for sure, it seems like they may be built only to not reject GOG.com's cdkey. I have played UT2k4 a number of times with a number of PC's in my home and I have not had issues with going online, and I'm positive other users here have used it as well, without any sort of repercussions.

If you will have any issue with doubled CDKeys, just ask our Support Team, they will send you a new one.

I'm confused now. Do all GoG copies use the same CD key or not?
Maybe if a few people with UT2004 would post the first and last digit of their GoG CD key, that could clear up the issue for certain.

not really, GOG offers drm free games, not having to worry about a CDkey (which is DRM) is important.And like I said, I believe Epic has an agreement with them to validate all copies of their specific CD key.

ID? Dont you mean epic? Ah, so by that agreement, whenever they see the special gog.com key, it lets them play. But what about if someone gets that cdkey from the registry, and posts it online for everyone to download?? Wouldnt that make it available to anyone with a computer and internet enabled?

it's so old, they probably only care about UT3 and GOW anyway.. not only that, but probably only console versions. Epic hates PC gaming and thinks it's dead.

All GOG games are DRM free. If someone took it into their head to do so, they could make torrents of all the GOG game installers, and everyone would be able to play the games for free. So far, noone has done so. Hopefully, noone ever will.
GOG is showing their customers the respect of not labelling them as thieves (as opposed to basically every other game company out there), and so far, their customers have honored and reciprocated that respect, by not being thieves.

Sorry, I bought my copy of UT2004 retail many years ago. To make matters worse, I bought it shortly before the DVD version was released, so to install UT2004 I need to swap 6 CDs :-( Still, I only have to reinstall whenever I buy a new computer, which only happens once every couple of years, so I manage.

Sort of. Unreal 2 multiplayer is an addon called Unreal 2 XMP. It provides a fun class-based team game.
