I just bought this and am downloading it now (will be a while, internet is sucky atm). Does this come with the 4 official addons from the unreal tournament site, like digit extremes and whatnot? Basically all the extra maps that I played the heck out of.
If it does not, can they be added or do they argue with the GOG version?

Also, will I have to, like I do with GOG version of painkiller, have to tab out and set affinity to 1 core or have the game run at an uncontrollable fast forward?

Just got it DLd and installed, I get the precaching window, then a black screen and it alt tabs. I hear the background audio, but nothing non screen. When I try yo maximize the game, I get a full screen black screen, in about 3-4 seconds it alt tabs again.
I am running in Windows 7 64 Pro, on a GeForce 580 running the 270 driver.

Well, been trying it.
I got into the game, basically when it starts blacked out, press ESC and you get into the menu. Once that is done, you can work like normal. I was playing a basic botmatch, and by the time I was heading to get the 3rd flag the game start jerking BADLY.
Since this is not a DOSbox port like so many others, I am not sure where to start, but I have the game set to the same settings I ran it at on Win 98, 2K and XP for years on TNT2's through my old 8800 Ultra, so I am not sure where the issue could be coming from.

This is the same thing the disk version did, any ideas?

Have current DirectX installed as well, the full SDK, no change. Also, menu is jerky as well. Once it starts jerking it gets worse until game is unplayable, however it never seems to crash.

Well, for me (Vista x64 Ultimate) it runs fine, though I have noticed that after updating my DirectX9 to the latest redistributable (yes, DX9 still gets updates) that the original Unreal game gets a noticeably lengthy black screen on loading, though it does eventually load the menu after about 30-45 seconds, though the gameplay is still fine.

One thing that you could try is using unofficial DX10 renderers for the game. I've provided a link below for where you can get it and all the information about it, how to install it, etc. You never know, it might sort it out for you.

EDIT: Just thought I'd add that I've literally just tried out the DX10 renderer in Unreal Gold and it works perfectly. Also, my initial loading time is back down to just a few seconds (though I don't know whether that is due to the renderer or something else).

EDIT 2: Just tried it in UT99 aswell, and again it works fine, looks pretty good too with the AA and AF, and the auto-FOV.

Well, I frankly never cared if the graphics were better or not, so I never looked at any of those mods, IMO a lot of older games were fine the way they were. But....BUT.... OMFG ti worked, smoothed everything out, game plays smooth, in fact to make sure it just didn't extend the time to lag, I got it to 1 flag-cap left, then hung out at their flag spot, and racked up about 50 kill;s on a small man count setting, so it took a while, and dayum, it worked like a charm!

Thank you very much for the help!!

Question, how high can AF and AA go? I got a GTX 580, so im NOT worried about overloading it.

Side question, I don't want to risk hosing this, but do the old free downloads from the old www.unrealtournament.com like Digit Extremes and whatnot work with this? I don't want to risk breaking this, however it had maps I absolutely LOVED, like Epic and Ratchet, and some of the others.

Hey, glad it got it working for you. It's not a mod though as it doesn't change anything about the game itself, it is just a replacement renderer. And I guess that DX10 is bound to be more efficient on a Win7 setup than old DX9 is, so yes, it does make sense that it helps performance. :)

For AF and AA, I'm at the default of 8xAF and 4xAA and I'm on a 3 year old factory overclocked GTX 260. The website says that the max AF is 16 and the max AA is also 16. So crank it up and see how it works for you.

Plus, if you really want to give your GPU a workout, download some S3TC replacement textures for the game and really make it look nice.

Lastly, for the map stuff, the only additions I've added are the UT99 Bonus Pack 4 (as that isn't included in the GOG version but is free, think it's on the official UT site somewhere) and an archive of common maps. If they are just the map files then you shouldn't have any issues running them.

Last question, does the S3TC cause any possible complications in multiplayer? I ask as some older games id in fact argue if anything was different.

Thanks again! And I will give 16x16 a try.
There are possible complications with S3TC in multiplayer, yes, as some anti-cheat programs may prevent you playing with them. It depends on how you are going to be doing multiplayer. If it's via online servers you may get this issue, but if it's over LAN or direct connection between machines then you'll be fine.
