I have been trying to install the game after years of not playing it. On attempting to install the game, it seems to fully download the files, but during the install process it stops at around 16% and then fails. The error GOG Galaxy tells me is a disk access error (which seems unlikely since I have other games from GOG Galaxy installed there). Further, when I attempt to retry the install or uninstall it, it also fails. I have to manually go to the install location and delete the files myself. I do not know what else to do here or figure out what's wrong, any help is appreciated

i am in the same boat. Installed the game via the offline installers and everytime i try to launch the game it tries to "update" and failed because of the disk access error and greys out all my options with the game
So i'm not the only one who's having this problem... anyone have a fix for it?
Do you have enough spare diskspace?
Did you install in C:\program files or in a completely different location?
Did you try to install as admin?

The problem is most likely caused by a Windows shortcut the installer tries to create/update inside the game’s installation folder but fails to do so. This shortcut should not exist in the first place, it is not required to run the game, and it is simply wrong (points to a directory that only the developers have on their machine).

The shortcut in question is called "locale - shortcut.lnk" (the LNK extension should not be visible) and should be located inside the folder "data\meta\materialization\locale\objects\largemachines", inside UnderRail's installation directory.

To work around this issue, manually create the shortcut file inside the “largemachines” folder pointing to any empty file (not directory) in your machine.

If you happen to have a drive E: on your machine, you can instead try creating an empty file (not directory) called "locale" (no extension) inside “E:\Development\Workspace\Timelapse Vertigo\Data\Meta\Materialization” (the shortcut’s target).

Also, if you changed Galaxy's temporary game update folder, during game updates/repairs the shortcut will be temporarily located inside "<Galaxy temporary game update folder>\1447688349\data\meta\materialization\locale\objects\largemachines" instead of the UnderRail's installation folder.

This was absolutely the solution, thank you!
