I cant save or access any kind of game menu while playing also I can't get the games back to full screen after looking at the manuals and can somebody please explain this to the noob who hasn't used dosbox before this

Well, getting back to fullscreen is simply alt+enter. I'm not sure what's going on with the menu though. As far as I know, the U6 engine really doesn't have a menu once you get into the game, you just hit alt+s or ctrl+s or something like that to save.

Okay yeah, according to the Savage Empire manual:

ctrl-s Save
ctrl-r Restore
ctrl-q Quit
ctrl-h Toggle help mode
ctrl-z Toggle music & sound
1 through 7 Solo mode for each character
0 Party mode
Esc Abort
F1 through F7 Inventory for each character
* Toggle protrait & inventory
/ or F10 Party roster
~ Change combat mode
+ Next character's status
- Previous character's status
