So, I'm playing Ultima VI, and one of the first things I did was to get the Book of Lost Mantras from Moonglow. I went to talk to the Wisps in Yew and, sure enough, they gave me a lot of gold nuggets. But when I talk to them again they repeat the same conversation. I go through the whole conversation again and say goodbye. I talk to them again but they just repeat the same thing, but I was told you can get gold nuggets from them multiple times. After the first time they don't give me anything else. Are there wisps in other places? Do they give the gold only once? If anyone could clarify this for me it would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I've heard the same thing but I've never been able to get them to give me the gold more than once. Maybe it was possible with a different version of the game (i.e. not DOS)? Either way, the gold nuggets are a pretty good haul (assuming you cleared your inventories, as much as possible, in anticipation) so you should be set.

As far as I know, if you choose to get the gold, your party will be weighed down up to its maximum carrying capacity, and the book stays in your inventory. Then you could repeat the trick.
The bug doesn't affect all versions of the game, so, first of all, check if the book is still in your inventory. If it is still there, you should be able to repeat the trick, but first you have to unload your party's packs: I mean, if you're carryng your max load you can't get more nuggets.

Yes, the book stays in your backpack in the DOS version. I've never been able to repeat the trick though. If the book hadn't stayed in my backpack I wouldn't have bothered talking to the sprites again (after emptying my packs). That's why I'm thinking it doesn't work with the DOS (GOG included) version.
