I've been watching GOG for a while waiting for UU1 (and the Quest for Glory line!!!). I still own all these games but figured GOG would make it so easy and for a few bucks how could I go wrong???

When I downloaded the game there was no sound. Eventually I got the sound correct (I was actually modifying by accident the .conf file of an old installation from the original CD game). Sound now works but within the musical score I get a random pop noise every few seconds.

Music sounds normal outside of the pop/glitch sound.

Does anyone know how to correct this?

I kinda figured GOG would have these things working flawlessly right out of the box. I wasn't expecting to modify anything....

Thanks in advance.
It's difficult to know what you're talking about exactly without seeing it for ourselves. Maybe post a video or even just an audio recording of it happening.

For the record, these games were a bit buggy back in the day. I'm pretty sure that there were sound glitches and the like in the product back when it was released. I know that's not much consolation but the fact that you're playing a 19 year old game at all is rater impressive.
Try following the advice in this thread, and see if it helps:

I have also experienced sound "pops" when using DOSBox to run games and sometimes it may be unavoidable, but people on these forums have spent some time setting up the best sound configuration for Ultima Underworld so hopefully that will help.
