dick1982: i sticked with the sword of justice/calibur in UW1 since it doesn't need repairing and perfect for smashing doors.

stryx: And since it is a talisman and I need to carry it around anyway, I might as well use it. Same goes for the shield of valor. :-)
One could say the same of the Taper of Sacrifice, but I find I like having the extra light from a lantern. Still an option, though.

Paulon: One thing I discovered the hard way in UW2 is that some area effect combat spells aren't blocked by walls. I thought I was being clever using Shockwave when mobbed at one point, only to discover the friendlies in the areas behind the walls had also been hit by my spells and the entire previously safe area had turned hostile.

While a pre-readied combat spell can be very handy in a fight, it pays to avoid using anything with an area effect in places with friendly NPCs about.
Good to know. I think I mostly just beat my enemies to death with a weapon when I played through it.

If I'm really low on str I do abandon all light sources, once I have found the taper. But normally I prefer the helm of magic lantern.

I like the helm, but I usually use the crown of protection that is found earlier and I keep using a lantern for light. I've used the Taper, but most of my recent plays I've considered a lantern + flask of oil worth the weight needed to hold them. I'd sooner go from chain to leather to relieve weight concerns before downgrading my light source.

I don't use the Black Sword because it takes too long to charge, though I've used that too.

It helps that I've played enough to know whether I'll have a use for any given piece of equipment that I find; I've taken to carrying a pack that I put everything "I'll need/use this later" until I get to the point to use/turn in the item.

My last playthrough was with a str 17 mage. I was only wearing leather and relying on the taper. But I was still able to carry all of the important items around. I did have to undress though, to be able to carry the ten fish.

the best tip is not dying,as dying will end ur game experience, causing your character to die and unable to combat any more :)

Not if you planted the silver sapling in UW1 (which can be found on the first level of the Abyss). Then you'll just respawn where you planted it with some xp loss (no biggie, since xp is capped anyway) and can continue.

In UW2 dying in other worlds is harmless, too. You'll just respawn next to the gem in Castle British's basement.

I think you still suffer XP loss in UW2. I didn't know about the xp loss in UW1, but then I usually try not to die.

Since there is a level cap in UW2 as well, xp loss is not much of a biggie. You can always summon demons and kill them, if you need some additional skill points to flesh out your build.

Lol, wish I knew that item in game, would've saved me from doing several reloads everytime I died in the game xD

Well, luckily there are playthroughs on the internet. Take a look here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eO2GVQIKa3o from 10:41 to 11:50.

if i remember it right, i died so many times in UW1 fighting the "chaos knight" in level 6 of the abyss , i somehow triggered a bug which allowed me to level up my ranger to 19. i got enough XP to get to 19 by doing almost all subquests, and killing all the goblins, lizardmen and mountainmen. the maximum XP level was suppose to be 16.
