When I mouse over U7 in GoG galaxy it shows me Ultima VII- Serpent Isle + The silver Seed. When I click the icon to go to the U7 page, it says: Ultima VII-The Black Gate + Forge of Virtue. When I go to the store page in the drop down menu, I am redirected to the GoG main page and not to the Complete Edition. Under "Extras" I can only download Ultima VII-The Black Gate + Forge of Virtue.
When I start the game I get the earthquake and the message that I should talk to Lord British. So I installed Forge of Virtue. But how do I start Serpent Isle. Is/was this not a standalone addon? I can't find it in the library. Do I have an older Ultima VII GoG Version without addon and have to buy the Complete Edition for the two addons Serpent Isle + The silver Seed?

Ultima VII: The Black Gate and Ultima VII: Serpent Isle are two separate games. I have the originals rather than the GOG versions, but I would guess they should be listed as separate titles in your library.

The reason they are both called Ultima VII is the developer felt a number increment required a new engine, and both of these games use the same engine.

The one you have started is The Black Gate, which is the first game. The Forge of Virtue is expanded content for The Black Gate while The Silver Seed is expanded content for Serpent Isle.

I don't use GOG Galaxy, but they should be listed as two separate items in your library, as already mentioned. "Ultima VI - The Black Gate + The Forge of Virtue" and "Ultima VII - Serpent Isle + The Silver Seed"

I have solved the problem. With GoG Galaxy I don't see Serpent Isle + The Silver Seed, but when I log into my account in the browser Serpent Isle + The Silver Seed and The Black Gate + Forge of Virtue are available. Until now all my games in GoG Galaxy were shown except Serpent Isle + The Silver Seed. My Black Gate + Forge of Virtue installation still shows me the image of Serpent Isle and mouse-over also shows Serpent Isle. I guess the Galaxy Team has to check this again. I have attached a picture where you can see that Serpent Isle is supposedly installed. In the background you can see that this is not the case but that Forge of Virtue (+Black Isle) is installed.

Edit: Ok, in the top menu bar i can see a rhombus on the far left. If i click on it i can choose between both games...
Normal would be to select the games/addons in the dropdown menu on the far right, under "additional file link".

Thanks for pointing out the dual-rhombus icon with "2" next to it along the top bar, I never would have figured that SI and BG could be toggled back and forth. What a weird decision.

Whoa! I also never noticed this! I remember when I first installed Ultima 7, I needed to install the Ultima 7 COMPLETE in order to get both games to install. I had no idea there was a Rhombus that allowed me to choose between the games...

Of course, after I installed Ultima 7 COMPLETE, I just used Exult to run the game. I don't think I've run Ultima 7 without using Exult in almost a decade...

Ok, so Ultima VII The Black Gate + The Forge of Virtue and Ultima VII Serpent Isle + The Silver Seed are two separate games. I understand that. But in GOG Galaxy I have something that's called Ultima 7 The Complete Edition. There's no such thing on the page with offline installers. I presume this should install both games at once, but the Install button is greyed out for some reason. What's the purpose of such an entry?

I have a similar problem with Heroes Chronicles which come as separate entries for every campaign. Despite that I have an entry called Heroes Chronicles: All Chapters which should install every chapter but the install button is greyed out...
