I have seen several references to frame rate (changed with F11/F12), CPU cycle usage (changed with Ctrl-F11/F12) and frame limiting (turned on with Alt-F) in this forum. Do these settings apply to Ultima VII and if so what do they do?

Thanks
It should work because it is running on dosbox, although see really that much of a diffrence by doing this.

Framerate is basically what you'd expect, it changes the amount of frames that are played per second.

CPU cycle usage basically controls the speed of the emulation, so F11 decreases the emulation speed and F12 Increases the emulation speed.

Alt-F what it does is it actually unlocks the emulation speed,(some people call it the Turbo button) basically what this does is that it removes the limit of the maximum frames it displays per second.

Anyways, hope this helps.
If you want the game to run smoothly, you're going to need to run it in Exult 1.5 or later. The original engine will have stutter no matter what the settings...
I've changed my dosbox-settings, so that ctrl F12 shoots the cycles up for 10000. Normally (when outside of Britannia), I play it with 10000, but when I'm in the city, and especially near the palace or use the flying carpet, I play with 20000. Going too high makes the NPCs and animations run like on speed.

But as king_mosiah said: Exult is the alternative - the game is absolutely playable from beginning to end, features some enhancements, but misses some features from the original game or has issues with them. It's a trade-off.
