I hope that this isn't off-topic because it's about exult and the GoG version of 7 (which I have) uses DosBox by nature, but I cannot for the life of me seem to change the keybinds for Exult. I find the base configuration very cumbersome because I'm used to a more modern layout (WASD, etc), but even after looking at the exult FAQ on their site and trying everything I can think of, the game always uses the default bind scheme. I've tried making a new config file and pointing exult.cfg towards it as well as just modifying the default keybinds file, but nothing ever changes.

I'm not technologically inept - quite the opposite, I'd like to think - but this is quite annoying. If anyone has any insight, I would appreciate it.
