I picked up the Ultima IV+V+VI package (Mac OS) from GOG the other day and I having a great time with Ultima VI. I feel like I am completing a quest that I left dormant for over 15 years. My only concern is my saved game, I would like to back them up. While I can navigate to the Ultima VI folder for the game on the Mac OS, what is the file extension? Thanks again.

As I recall, Ultima 6 saves were a rats nest of a huge pile of files.

The game was only made for DOS and Amiga as I recall, and the Amiga version was a mediocre port. This has to be the dos version in dosbox, so I'd expect the same -- a directory named for your save with a lot of .SAV files in it.

As for where this ends up, I HOPE it's in ~/Library somewhere. I don't have this installed on os x. Maybe i'll try a test later.

Yeah the version GOG uses is the DOS version, also Ultima 6 was also ported very poorly to the c64 and saw a SNES version(primarily for the Japanese audience but was later releases stateside)

Here they are:

The location you need to find is: <path-to-game>\SAVEGAME\
Copy the entire "SAVEGAME" folder to make a backup of your save.

EDIT::
Originally, you were only allowed one save game for U6. The GOG version allows you to reset your save, without having to reinstall, but you still only get one save. If you want multiple saves, and aren't too worried about the odd, minor, missing feature or bug, look into Nuvie

Yes, go with Nuvie and use the new Ultima VII style interface. Nuvie also allows for proper save files, you can find them under ~/Library/Application Support/Nuvie/savegames.
