Just bought all the Ultima games on GOG and am trying to play through the second trilogy.

In the original versions you used to be able transfer your Ultima 4 character to Ultima 5 but when you try on the GOG version all you get is a black screen. I assume something similar will happen with U5 to U6.

I have seen some older threads with some suggested fixes but they did not seem to work. I also found a couple older patches online but the exe files won't work with my 64 bit Windows 7 saying that they are incompatible.

Does any one have any updated fixes for this issue or should I just start a new character?

Thanks for any help and thanks to GOG for making these classics available.
There is a link to FIXPARTY.EXE in the sticky thread:
http://www.gog.com/forum/ultima_series/ultima_series_ressource_collection

Fixparty is a DOS executable, so you have to run it in DOSBox, but don't ask me how, I'm on OS X, I don't know how to use DOSBox on Windows. What i did was create folder with Fixparty and the Ultima IV save file in it and mount that as the A drive (floppy) in DOSBox while the folder with Ultima V was mounted as the C drive (hard disc). Then, in DOSBox, I switched to the A drive and called Fixparty. I was then able to import the save file from the "floppy disc" in Ultima V. It's definietly worth it, you get a nice boost to you experience and stats, cutting down the leveling up time for your character.

I assumed fixparty.exe was a 16 bit Windows file. Now it makes sense. Thanks for your help. I will mess around with DOSBox and see what I can do....
Just want to quickly say that this worked. I had to shorten the name of the folders temporarily to mount them and get them to work with DOSBox but it was no problem. Now I get to start at Level 5 with 999 experience which is so much better because I do know this game can be a grid!

Thanks again.

Actually, you shouldn't need to rename the folders. If you've installed the games in their default locations the path for Ultima 4 would be this:
C:\Program Files\GOG.com\Ultima Second Trilogy\ULTIMA4 or C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Ultima Second Trilogy\ULTIMA4
In DOSBox you would type this instead:
C:\Progra~1\GOG.com\Ultima~1\ULTIMA4 under a 32-bit system or C:\Progra~2\GOG.com\Ultima~1\ULTIMA4 under a 64-bit system.

This assumes you don't have anything that comes before "Ultima Second Trilogy", so maybe it's easier to just rename folders and then name them back. :) I'm just trying to note an alternate method.

Also, if you put the path into quotation marks, such as "C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Ultima Second Trilogy\ULTIMA4", DOSBox should be able to mount the folders as normal.

And one last thing...
If you download Pix's Ultima Patcher from here you should be able to use that to get the party transfer working properly without fixparty.exe... should be able to. :)

Thanks for the help . I wasn't sure how to properly abbreviate the folders. I will also try that patch.
I just found this after digging a nit and taking a guess at how to do this transfer.

In my Ultima 4 files, I found a file names party.sav. I just copied that file from my Ultima 4 directory into my ultima 5 directory and transfer worked perfectly.

This was on Win 7- 64 bit, assume would work on other windows machines.

This worked for me. I copied party.sav from Ultima IV to "...\Ultima 5\cloud_saves". Started Ultima V, chose Transfer from the main menu. This is how it would have been done on floppy disks back in the day.
I tried to transfer a character from Ultima IV to V.

I copied the PARTY.SAV file from the Ultima IV cloud_saves directory to the Ultima V cloud_saves directory.

Then, when I tried to import, I got a message saying "Error! Your Ultima IV game contains bad data. Unable to continue transfer. Press any key to return to the menu."

Trying the same without the PARTY.SAV file just crashes the game and it sits at a blank, black screen.

The PARTY.SAV file works fine in Ultima IV, however.

My base OS is Windows 10 Home, 64 bit, 20H2.

If anyone has a fix for this, I'd really appreciate knowing it. The "FIXPARTY.EXE" resource seems to be gone, now.

Hello,
I just tried it without using fixparty.exe and it works fine. I copied party.sav from the folder for ultima 4 to the folder for ultima 5 on my hard drive. I then started up Ultima 5 and used the transfer option from the main menu. DOSBOX sets the drive as C. So when it asks for the drive all you have to do is type C.

I get the error message I assume was referenced above:

Okay, I don't know what I did wrong, but recopying it worked.
