Bookwyrm627: So you shouldn't have to worry about throwing everything you don't want into the water. Did you spawn a lot of things (read, "food") with spells or anything? If not, I'd think a restart should cover you (perhaps a re-download and re-install just to be safe).

Enebias: That's the point; I didn't. Never spawned anything. I did the same you said, keeping a few "storerooms" (the one on level 2 being the biggest) , yet I added almost nothing to the other floors.
Level 5 is practically empty!

Also, I should specify this: I heard that this bug is game-breaking, so I stopped playing before things could get out of hand and asked for "preemptive" solutions.
After backing up the save files and playing for a while more, though, I noticed that aside from the message (which appears each time I pass on lv.5) nothing seems changed... since others arount the Internet said that for them things started to get messy immediately after the message and after reading GeistSR's post, I think I'll try to continue with this playthrough and see how it ends.
*Maybe* this is just a remnant of an already corrected error and I will get no serious problems. Knowing my luck I will probably miss a single artefact just near the end! :P
Oooooohhh. I thought the game was actually crashing, so you couldn't leave level 5 and come back to it. Nevermind then, my vote is with everyone else: just keep on trucking. Thankfully, there are very few items that are absolutely required to finish the game; I'll leave it at that unless you want more specifics.
The irony: in the end, the message on level 5 did nothing, yet now I see a bloodstain where a character named Judy was supposed to be (I'm getting back to her after finding what she sent me to search for).
I heard this is another game-breaking bug, since I cannot obtain a piece of the tripartite key... I'm screwed, right?
Please, tell me that there is a way to make specific items spawn.

And I get to be the bearer of bad news (again). I haven't ever heard of a way to spawn items, and a quick Google search didn't turn up anything; maybe you'll get lucky and find something if you search harder. Without Judy to "give" you her piece of the tripartite key, yes you're boned. She doesn't wander around, but maybe you (or something else?) bumped her from her normal position. If you can't find her anywhere in the room that she normally stands in, then try an earlier save (if you have one).

If she isn't there, you don't already have the item, and you can't find the item in the lava (where it spawns), then I think you're screwed.

Bookwyrm627: ...
Yes, I'm definitely screwed! :P
I serched for a while, too, but it seems there is no solution.
I think the culprit was the only other character around there, a feral ghoul who bumped her inside the lava pit. Next time, I'll be sure to clean the zone before leaving!
I have already restarted the game (even if I could have used a backup of the saves I made several hours before that point, they wouldn't have done much difference. Besides, now I want to see if I get the inventory error again), and I'm surprised to see how fast I'm advancing since I already know what to do... yet this kind of error is real embarassing. I mean, a developer should know that there is always the chance of a collision, so an immunity to fire for a necessary NPC should be in order!
Aww that sucks. Yeah she is really perilously close to the lava. I used to shove her all the way across the room to safety, but she sometimes returns to home position when you re-enter the level. IIRC, it used to be even worse as she could randomly walk into the lava herself before they patched it to root her in place. You will probably see the error message again even after restarting. It seems inevitable, but it shouldn't stop you completing the game.

edit: Why do GoG forums eat posts so often? It took four attempts to get this posted...
