Hello there

Is there digital speech (voice) on Ultilma Underworld 2? I can't hear any. I can hear music and sound effects (like the hero's attacks) but no one speaking.

I heard there's supposed to be speech in the introduction of the game, I heard none, only music.

I recall Ultima Underworld 1 has no subtitles when speech is on. On the intro of UUW2 here there's subtitles. I don't know if that means something.

In-game, speech is enabled.

If there was supposed to be voice-acting in the beginning and conversations, anyone has a clue how I can make it work?

I find it hard to believe that the sequel has less voice-acting than the first, but I don't really know.

Well, no idea why is that, but you can read about this also in these old reviews - http://bootstrike.com/Uw2/Online/review1.php

So cool to read a review that starts with system requirements that say "Memory: 2 MB RAM, expanded memory manager [e.g. EMM386.EXE]", "386/20Mhz or better processor", "Interface: Mouse [strongly recommended]", and then go on to say stuff like (get this) "I had just finished playing EYE OF THE BEHOLDER II and [...] found a review of ULTIMA UNDERWORLD: THE STYGIAN ABYSS [...]. Most notable, of course, was the fact that movement was smooth and could be made in any angle through the varying sized and shaped rooms, [...] while other games of this genre [...] used ninety degree angles and steps of movement that jump the player five feet or so at each key press."
IIRC, the intro didn't have a voiceover. The speech comes in the form of the Guardian occasionally taunting you during the game, either while sleeping or when you first discover specific locales. Without speech you just get text at those points.
