Does anyone know if there are any retexture projects for uw1 or 2? I've been looking around as much as I can and all I see are mentions of people attempting it and there is also a tool to extract the textures yourself but I dunno how to use that or get them back in the game if I did redo the textures. There are a few remake projects that look great but were never completed. I could go with mods of other games, but I haven't seen any that really hold true to the spirit, look, and feel of the original games. Most of those are incomplete as well.

I like modding games, such as Skyrim, and retexturing in those seems easy compared to games on older engines like uw1&2. Just revamp the original textures or make new ones and overwrite the old ones. Isn't it just as simple as extracting the textures, revamping them, and putting them back in? Or just replacing them all together with higher color new textures - say 24bit?

I've played these games since I was a kid and know every crack on every wall and where every minor detail of everything in any given area is, and it would be nice to play it with some updated scenery so I don't get bored of it after 5 minutes of playing. Does the GoG version do anything different as far as appearance compared to my original game disks?
I don't know of any texture projects for these games. Many old games had very specific texture formats so it probably wouldn't be possible to introduce textures with a higher bit depth.

The GOG versions have the latest patches applied but would be otherwise identical to your original disks.
That's too bad. It would be awesome to see modern(ish) textures in the UW games and maybe a sound effects overhaul.
I think the best hope would be if the deluxe Japanese FM Towns remakes of Ultima 1 and 2 got translations and port to pc.

It looks somewhere between early Phantasy Star graphics and later Sega Genesis graphics.

Edit: Sorry I misread the topic title.
