Trying to play ultima 9 but everytime there is a cutscene it crashes - can't get out of the game unless I restart the computer also I can't progress as it is the first cutscene when you go through the portal right at the beginning - I downloaded the latest unofficial patch but it still doesn't work. Any ideas?

Thanks

If you are on Windows 10 or 11, try this possible solution.

So, I got it working, you have to make sure you disable every file possible that has that compatibility option. Not just one executable but multiple 'executable' files - that's what confused me when I first tried that.

Thanks for the help

p.s. how do I mark this one as solved?

In order to mark a thread as solved, you must tag a post in the thread as a solution, but you can't mark your own posts as solution to your question.
Alright, I got it working, too. Thanks!

I made the error however to also check a compatibility mode ("Windows 98/ME"). I thought that could not hurt. But with this one activated I still got that crash when entering Britannia. Just as a hint for anyone who makes the same mistake as me.

Additional hint for anyone who has the game zoomed in: My laptop has a high DPI screen. Windows scales the GUI to something above 100%. That leads to the game being zoomed in so that parts of the output is not visible. To solve that go to the same compatibility tab an click the button "Change High DPI settings" (or similar, I have a German Windows running). In the new window check the lower checkbox an below that choose the option "Application". OK both windows and the game screen should be completely visible.

Thanks again. Have fun in Britannia!
