Well, I am walking Britannia, and stumbled upon the Test of Truth. Yes, I know HOW to solve it, I do not need that information.

What I would really like to know, is any guesses, opinions, etc. on how to assemble the correct solution from the clues that are given.

My search found people stumbling upon the solution by chance or systematic trial and error, or simply looking it up, but not one that "solved" the Test of Truth.

What are your opinions on it?
I had to fesort to hints to figure it out. The actual hint is obvious when you know it, but both subtle and an awful pun.
I can't really recall any given hints and found the real amulet by accident the first time I played the game, decades ago.
Of the dozens of playthroughs after that, well, it wasn't a surprise anymore.

I'd also be interested in knowing what the idea behind the test is. I never found the logic in it.
I'm not a native English speaker though, so perhaps there's some English expression regarding 'shrouded = masked or hidden (the hood on the floor can be called a shroud) truth' or something. The truth is shrouded.
I dunno. Just fumbling around in the dark.
The opposite of Truth is falsehood, so the clue is a real hood lying on the ground by the invisible passage. It's a pun.

Is that really all there is to it? Damn you, Lord British.

Well, I thank you.
Sorry for bumping what is essentially a solved thread, I just wanted to chime in to say that the "Test of Truth" is disappointing as a gameplay challenge and as a way of illustrating a narrative point since it really is arbitrary. Teaching one that "not everything is as it seems" is =/= from arbitrary.

Yes someone pointed out that there is a clue strictly speaking but damn I would challenge anyone to come up and say they figured out the solution based on that.

Yes, I used a walkthrough... at least I got the glass sword on my own!

FYI, I completed realMyst (2000) without any walkthrough so it's not like I suck at puzzles in general; I just feel that the developers got lazy here, particularly as the "challenge" is ostensibly tied to an important lore-related point of the game. They didn't have to come up with a fully-fledged thesis for this - but what we got is unfortunately not smart.

P.S.: I do like the game in general.
I want to say that it's an example of how cheesy and inconsistent U7BG is in comparison to U7SI.

Good to know, looking forward to U7SI!
