In fact I have the same problem, The Black Gate can not be ran from galaxy, but the standalone expansion works fine. The ony workaround is using the normal shortcut from the game folder to play the game without Galaxy.
Ok. I recomend yot try again under Galaxy 2.0. The today update of the client seems to have solved my problems launching the game. I have not tested further though.

I'm not able to install this per the original poster.
In GOG Galaxy 2.0, on my system only UIltima VII Part 2 Serpent Isle shows up as owned. If I install and hit play Ultima VII The Black Gate runs. It seems there is some issue with how Galaxy is seeing these 2 titles.

I am having the exact same problem just as you described.
I logged into the GOG.com website and found Ultima VII Black Gate + Forge of Virtue as one game AND Ultima VII Serpent Isle + The Silver Seed as a second game. Each game having its own offline downloads and the Download and Install Now option.
I used the offline installer file for each game and each install created 2 separate folders for each game. As well as 2 separate Launch executables within those folders. Launching the game(s) from it's corresponding folder, rather than trying to use Galaxy, launched each game as a stand alone game. Each game having different opening "movies".
At least I do have each game now and I hope you can do the same as I did but I agree with you, Galaxy isn't picking up Ultima VII Complete Edition. Unless I'm missing something this really needs to be fixed.

I actually got it figured out. On the Installed games page it shows up with the Serpent isle image. If you click on that and go to the game page, it still just says Serpent Isle, but at the top just to the left of where it says OVERVIEW. there is a little diamond with a 2 next to it. If you click on that diamond you can switch between which game launches.

Note that no matter it always shows Serpent Isle in the description and images. It would be great if the way this was setup in a clearer manner.

I checked out your solution. So easy. Too easy!! I played and finished both VII and VIII and their addons back when they were 1st released. No cheating or hints either. I knew all about autoexec, config sys, IRQs, DOS, memory management,etc.. Now 30+ years later I get stumped over of a little diamond with a 2 next to it!! Time for a pint of GROG.
Oh my god thanks, just had the Same Problem. They should change that somehow. Show both games in the launcher or something.

Thanks again :D
