Ultima 2 with 6 food left, no way to get food....

How the hell do I get out of this situation without having to completely start from scratch?

Unfortunately, you don't.

In Ultima 1, you could deathwarp, which sets your HP and Food back to 99, but you have no money and might as well have to start over. Ultima 2 doesn't let you continue after game over.

You could try hacking your save to increase the amount of food you have.

Ultima 3, fortunately, made running out of food non-lethal.

You put the game away and never play it again.

Seriously. Compared to the rest of the entire series, this game's implementation was horrible. In retrospect, I'm surprised III ever got made.

It's a rough start in the beginning. All you do is fight for food, at least till you get that damned item which allows to board ships. After that the game gets more reasonable, as food is not consumed while sailing.

You can try stealing food, but it's risky and only works well in a few towns where there is an easy escape route.

Despite all that I found Ultima II better than Ultima I, which was a little more than a demo.

Here you are. The only hope, I suppose. I've never used that editors, but I suppose it should not be brain surgery to edit saves' data and increase one of parameters.

Why, I, for one, really loved this game. But I'm drawn to crazy settings (extremely enjoying silly things like computer camp on Neptune :D), while most people seem to prefer generic fantasy stuff.

I get this error.

I've checked that tool last week and it works. Perhaps you could send me your Player file and I can make that edition for you.

However it may take a while to get a proper result, because in my case editing file caused moving my hero to another location (position on map is one of editable parameters and tool has overwritten it for some reason, trapping my character; another edit with a proper coordinates was necessary).

Did you sort this out? I had the same error message but just sorted it out with Ultima 3.

Basically I opened the package and ran the file wine.
