Hi there,

I'm working my way through the Ultima series. Finished Aklabeth and Ultima 1, on to Ultima 2.

Question - where on earth do I buy food? The strategy guides, walkthroughs, wiki's etc all say you can buy food "in any town". Well the only town that's accessible when you start is Town Linda, and I can't see where to buy food.

The closest I see is the Pub, but it only lets me buy single drinks or tip the bartender.

Can anyone help?
It's actually the villages that will sell you food, the smaller settlements - they're distinguished from towns on the "overworld" map as a cluster of five small circles, as opposed to the symbol used for places like Towne Linda. "Alfred's Fish N Chips" is on the northeast side of Le Jester, which is down on the west side of the tip of Africa in the same time period as Towne Linda. That'd be the closest one to you, I think. Alternatively, you could hop through the timegate to AD Britain, you'll find Port Boniface right near Lord British's castle. McDonall's (again on the NE side of the village) will sell you food as well.
Ahhh...I missed the villages.

Thanks! This game is much less user-friendly than Ultima 1 - I'm not overly impressed so far.

Found food - is there any place to buy torches, or do I need to rely on drops for them as well?

Unfortunately, torches aren't purchaseable until Ultima III. For now you'll have to rely on random drops for those. Wizards and clerics do have access to the Light spell, though, which accomplishes the same thing and can be bought from the appropriate magic shops. There's one for both classes in Le Jester, and one for wizards in Port Boniface.
