Hello, the person I'm with in the game continually said that he is starving and needs food but do not have the slightest clue where to go, and a few minutes later, the screen flashes in red, so I'm assuming that is because he needs food, but I don't even know where to look; is it next to the stables, near one of the gates?

EDIT: This is for Ultima VII, I apologize in advance for the lack of information.

You should have some food in your characters' packs at the beginning of the game, and various food items are commonplace in the world. Use (double click) the food item and target the character to give it to them. If you're playing Serpent Isle or are using Exult for The Black Gate then there's a hotkey to make the process easier.

Pretty much anything you could reasonably expect to be edible (or drinkable) counts as food; generally, meat is the most filling and dessert/drink items are the least.
I tried clicking on the bread, and even tried dragging it towards the character with no effect. It just goes right back to the backpack, is there a specific way I'm supposed to consume items in this game?
Alright, I'll show you exactly what is wrong with a screenshot I have just captured. This is what I meant by not being able to feed my character; I double-clicked on the fork, tried dragging the food to the character to no avail; anyway I can feed them?

EDIT: Never mind, I figured out how to work this, thank you

Glad you figured it out. As you now know, you need to drag the food to the character (the sprite that actually walks around the world) not the paperdoll.

Friendly tip: In the future, when you figure something out, it's a good idea to come back and tell people what you did to help out others who might be having the same issue. :)

Okay. I did not mean to offend you. Apologies for that. For the record, I have double-clicked the item, had the cursor with a diamond shape and then directly clicked on the character in the field as opposed to the inventory box like I have tried to in the pic.

lol I wasn't offended. I was literally trying to give you a friendly tip. Unfortunately text isn't the greatest medium for nuanced communication...
