So, I was wondering what people think of Sherry as a party member. She has amazing dexterity but her strength is horrible. I think another magic user would be better. Although no party member is as adorable as Sherry, lol. In any case, what do you do with Sherry once she accomplishes her task? Do you keep her until the end or do you replace her for someone with different abilities?
She becomes necessary at one point. U6 is designed with changes in your party occuring, so if you want to keep her and want her strength boosted, just have her meditate at the Shrine of Valor when she levels up (+3 strength each time). A few rings of invisibility and a boomerang makes the first few levels happen fairly quickly...
Fun fact: in the Super Nintendo version Sherry is an inventory item, not a party member, so retains the special functionality without taking up a space in the party. :)

The SNES version? You mean "The Avatar of Zelda"?

You're thinking of Ultima VII. The SNES version of Ultima VI is a direct port with comparatively minor changes. Savage Empire was also ported to the SNES with similar results but that version was only released in Japan.

Yes, that's correct. I mixed up the games. :)
I remember being annoyed that the SNES U6 Gargoyles were called "gargfolk"...
I ditch her. Never thought about equiping her with a boomerang (didn't even know you could!).
IIRC she's strong enough to handle a wand too.

The Shrine of Valor and a few levels can turn her into a pretty capable character if you keep her around, and doing so has one other advantage: she can occupy the same tile as another party member, which is very handy for fighting in confined spaces.
I absolutely love keeping Sherry in the party and pumping up her strength. In the end you have a mouse in your party wearing full armor and wielding two morningstars (my favourite weapon setup overall).
I am going to have to replay it just to see that!
Her size does also have some utility beyond the rune fetching as she can also move through bars. For example, you can use her to loot the corpse of Rudyom's pet drake.
