Hi! Love this game, always have. Thanks GOG for making it available in a much cleaner, easier to use format. My question has entirely to do with the game itself and nothing to do with how it runs (no complaints! runs beautifully). So here's my problem. I'm on the Forge of Virtue section and while I was going through the tests of Love, Courage and Wisdom I was confused as to the significance of the "lockets" you pick up. I did the Love test first and the Wisdom test second, and there were so many decoy lockets there I assumed they were all without function, just a token of your completion of a section (much like the pentacle symbols in the Obsidian Fortress in U8). So, much to my later chagrin, I discarded the Love talisman somewhere within the Wisdom test. Now, after having completed all three tests and forged the Black Sword, it seems impossible for me to get back inside the Wisdom test and retrieve my talisman (not to mention get back inside the Love test and retrieve my magic carpet, which is how I entered the Isle of Fire to begin with). Does anyone know any way to go back and get it, or is there another way to hack-recreate the talisman?

I know this is an idiotically specific and nerdy question but I really want those extra 30 strength points I hear come with the banishing of Exodus...

Can you go back to an older save and start over without too much hassle? Your other option would be to either cast "Help" to go back to LB, or you could just die and go to Paws. Either way, you get to the mainland and can get LB's ship deed and sail from Vesper to get to the Isle of Fire.
You *can* get the cheat mode active, but you have to go through a batch file to do it. I've done it. But unless you know how to use the DOS window (any Windows OS) I'd recommend starting over or using Exult.

Just in case you're willing to try for a .bat file, here's the steps I took.

1. Open the Command Prompt window. Type "edit" and enter. This opens the DOS editor.

2. Type "ULTIMA7 ABCD[ALT+255 from the keypad]". [ALT+255] will create a character that looks like a space, but isn't.

3. Save to your Ultima 7 game directory. I named mine simply U7A.BAT. Close the DOS editor and the Command Prompt window.

4. Open the dosboxULTIMA7.conf file in notepad. Change the [autoexec] portion at the bottom to read as follows:
[autoexec]
@echo off
mount C "."
cls
c:
# ultima7.com
U7A.BAT

exit

5. Save and exit notepad. The desktop shortcut icon should now take you into the game with the cheat mode active.

6. Once in the game, hit the F2 key to bring up the debug menu. Type [T]eleport, [H]exidecimal Coordinates, [Enter]. It will then ask for the X, Y and Z coordinates. The start of the Truth Test (where Intelligence and Magic get boosted to 30) is 877, 669, 0. The start of the Courage Test is 8a8, 677, 0. The start of the Love Test is 9a6, 6b0, 0.

Hope this helps.
Grogerson is right, you'll have to use a cheat menu to get back in unless you have an earlier save. I do like his guide because it's much shorter and better than a guide I wrote to access the cheat menu a long time ago
