Hi, everyone. So I started playing Ultima VII, I went out of Trinsic, wandered the wilderness for a while, but suddenly the screen went very dark, like it was night, but I'm not sure if this game has a night and day cycle. I could barely see anything in my inventory. The second problem is that no matter how much I fed my characters (I gave them beef) they still said they were very hungry. I'm supposing I encountered glitches. I uninstalled the game and reinstalled it. Has anything similar to this happened to anyone? Is there any explanation for this? I really want to beat this game, so I'm really upset about this.

Thank you so much in advance to anyone who can shed some light on the issue.

Hello.
These are not glitches my friend :-)
But you can still check some things to make sure.

In this thread you get some answers perhaps:

But there is night time in Ultima VII, as well as hunger. The game is renowned for its interactivity: virtually everything not nailed to the ground (and not excessively heavy) can be moved, taken, or interacted with in some way. It is possible, for instance, to bake bread, to forge weapons, to milk cows, to play musical instruments, to paint a self-portrait, and to change a baby's swaddling. The Avatar and his companions, if not fed regularly, will complain of hunger pains and severe thirst, and will even perish if these matters are not attended to eventually. If they come across a disgusting or gruesome scene, they may groan and vomit; sufficient intake of strong alcoholic beverages will also result in visible nausea.

The game represents hunger as a number
0-31, with 31 being completely full and 0 being starving to death.
The person won't start asking for food until the counter reaches 6.
Below is a chart of how much an item of food will increase your "food level":

+31: Green Cheese
24: Mutton, Ribs, Chicken, Ham
16: Beef, Deer Meat
12: Sausage
9 : Big Cheese
8 : Flounder, Potatoes
6 : Jerky, Fish n' Chips
5 : Fruitcake
4 : Bread, Trout, Pumpkin
3 : Cake, Banana, Egg
2 : Apple, Small Cheese, Carrots, Rolls, Garlic
1 : Drinks, Grapes, Leeks
0 : Silverleaf, Bucket of Rum (or wine)

In other words, if the time in the game doesn't go too fast for you, which you should check according to the link I posted in the beginning of the reply, then when they are complaining about hunger, you now know they reach hunger of 6 or lower. Then you can't expect them to shut up for long if you feed them just +3 with a cake :-)

Where to get food for free: The best places to get food is directly from an animal. For example in Britain, the place that sells horses has several in its field, and a cow or two. Kill all the animals to get Ribs and Beef. In Paws the slaughterhouse has Sheep and Cows, which yield Mutton and Beef. In the wild there are deer, which leave deer meat. You should never ever have to buy food. Especially since you find it everywhere. Then when you go back to these places later, the animals will have regenerated!

The Spell "Create Food" will create 1 piece of food for everyone in the party and will deposit that food on the ground by their feet. The food that is created is random, so it's not always something good. Could be grapes.

And finally I'll tell you, that you're right with wanting to go deep in this game, because its one of the most amazing gaming experiences one can have imo. Its a master piece by any standards. Good luck and have fun!
