Just fought some headless and cyclops and got zero experience, Ive gotten no experience since I started is this broken?

IIRC the character who strikes the killing blow gets the XP. Check the other party members to see if they're gaining it, rather than the Avatar. If they're also not getting XP, then there is something wrong.
