I recall moving very quickly when I played this game decades ago. Now the character moves jerkily and it's slow enough to be annoying. Is there a way to fix this?

It happens when a bunch of enemies spawn nearby, because this is still a turn-based game. Nothing you can really do but try to kill them all quickly and move on.
