Hi, recently installed Ultima VI using the offline installer, and have encountered a problem after a few hours:

Key tiles in the world have vanished - for example, the entrance to the plot-critical dungeon Shame, as well as random bits of terrain.

I don't remember having this problem (or hearing about it) when playing the original U6 - has anyone else seen this? I've scanned the forums quickly, and can see a few 'Ultima 6 savegame corruption' type posts, that don't seem to have been resolved.

I've tried my save on another machine, with a fresh install - no luck there. I've tried the save using nuvie and scummvm - and they can't load the save at all, which is curious.

*Update: I tried using the GOG Galaxy version of U6 and found something interesting - the 2x GOG Galaxy versions of Ultima 6 prior to the current one (1.0 CS) can't load my 1.0CS save (versions '1.0' and 'version' respectively.

GOG, did you break Ultima 6's savegame compatibility somehow, or is it a bug in the original? Beginning to suspect the former, but can't tell conclusively...

Hmm, interesting. I've never encountered that before, but I always install my GOG games using GOG Galaxy.

Can you paste some screenshots of what you're seeing? Have you tried loading older savegames to see if you can reproduce this issue?

Attached a screenshot to show the missing tiles (bridge over lost river between skara and yew, missing tiles including the dungeon entrance for shame)

What I've tried:

* Different GOG installations (offline + and 3 different GOG 1.0CS/1.0/'version' installations from GOG Galaxy)
* Installation on a different machine with a non-GOG version
* Each combination with nuvie/scummVM

Also noticed a difference between the cloud_saves SAVEGAME folder & the normal SAVEGAME folder in the root of the Ultima 6 directory (this is even using the offline installer).

The cloud_saves\SAVEGAME folder has two less files than the 'vanilla' SAVEGAME folder, which seems... very strange. This is present in a fresh install also...
Update: Seem to have resolved the issue.

Cross-posting from the ScummVM forums - https://forums.scummvm.org/viewtopic.php?p=99229#p99229

Fix steps
* Start a fresh save on a NON-GOG installation of Ultima VI
* Copy the 'missing' savegame files from there to the cloud_saves\SAVEGAME folder
* ...and everything seems to work.

Not sure what happened, but I think the discrepancy between the number of savegame files could be the cause. That *appears* to be related to the GOG version.
