i'm playing ultima 4 and i found a herb shop i can talk to the shop keeper and select reagents that I want to buy, but I don't lose any money when i buy them and they are not in my inventory when i look for them. Does anyone know whats wrong?

The shopkeeper is blind, so you can choose how much to pay, even as little as one coin and get away with it, but I think choosing zero coins just cancels the purchase. Of course, a real Avatar is honest and pays the correct amount.

thats not the problem i pay the amount she tells me to but i don't get the reagents in my inventory and i don't lose any money.

When you type in the amount of money, do you use the num pad or the number keys above the letters? Is the number displayed correctly when you type it in?

I have the same problem (pc version) and haven't been able to solve it since I got the game. ITs been 20 years- seriously, 20 years. I acutally downloaded it and started playing U4 and I enjoy the game but this problem still bothers me.

only way of recreating this that i can see is having numlock off causing the number pad keys to give the error sound
though this would not affect the normal number keys above the letters
or having sticky keys get engaged on the shift, alt, or ctrl keys during gameplay

are you able to enter text normally in conversations or mantras in shrines?

OMFG!!!!

I just figured out what I've been doing wrong for the past 30 years I've been playing this game. When the blind person says "Very good, that will be 'X' gp. You pay:", I'm not supposed to answer yes to this but enter an amount of gold pieces I'm willing to pay.

I have been trying to figure out this game for the past 30 odd years without reagents thinking that I couldn't buy them and that was a bug in the game.

Holy shit.
