Years ago i bought the ultima games, but because they are hard to start for a beginner so i never really tried,
yesterday i downloaded exult and i tought to myself just try it and i will see how far i get but now im i am seriously playing it, i like it. I bought a long sword and a shield and did the investigation and got the password to leave, and i hit the parrot with the hammer and got the coordinations to a treasure after that i bought a sextant and went exploring but i cant find the treasure, i went west and i explored a cave and found a lightning whip killed some crocogiles but still i cant find the treasure.
This game is a real gem which had a huge following. Origin somehow got the recipe just right and Ultima 7 became one of the most popular RPGs ever made.

The parrot treasure is quite far away, I'd recommend not worrying about it too much until you have a ship. Don't want to be too spoilery about it though - enjoy the game's surprises :)
You don't really need the treasure as you'll be rich in no time with just a little exploration. Explore the world, enjoy its consistency, soak up the atmosphere. There's at least one sidequest in each town to solve, and the main quest will keep you busy for quite a while, sending you from one town to another.

I too couldn't get into the game for the longest time, playing just until I got out of Trinsic, then abandoning it. Well, one time I just persisted until I got to Britain, then the game really opened up. It was well worth it! I installed Exult to smooth out the scrolling, and added a font that was more easier on the eyes. The keyring mod is also worth looking into, it will save you some inventory frustration.
Im glad that i finaly can play it, i remember having the original game at the worst period you could own the game, and that was when windows 95 came out and i had a 486/66mhz but couldnt run the game without a bootdisk wich made some of my hardware not work like the cd audio so i had an intro that tjhe guardian came out of my screen and no voice.
Ultima is a classic thats for sure, Its one of the only games that really made me feel like I was in another world.

I had to keep looking in the manual to look for the runic translation chart so I could read the signs and I ended up memorizing the chart and I was able to read right from the game for a little while. I also kept a physical journal with me to write down parts in the game and I ended up having alot of fun roleplaying the avatar as he would write in his journal

Its an absolutly unique experience.
