I got the info from an NPC about where on might find glass swords. I went to the spot and found only one sword. Is it possible to find more or do you only get one?

Depending on which game you mean, you may be able to equip one and pick up another.
In The Black Gate, there are more, if you know where to look. They're usually hidden away pretty well, like *hint* in a certain test of love.

In Serpent Isle, other than being able to find more of them, they're technically unlimited, since you can buy them.
Ultima 1-4: No such thing.

Ultima 5: If you have a g;ass sword in your party's shared inventory, you can't get another. However, if you equip that gass sword, then it's no longer in your party's shared inventory, and you can get another. Repeat until everybody is using them, but remember to unequip them before fighting so that you don't waste them. (They're *powerful*, but they break after one hit.) If you do use them up, you can get more where you first found them, however.

Ultima 6: I'm not aware of any renewable sources, so be careful with them. I think you might need one of them to make a quest item, so it's possible to be unable to finish the game (without the Iolo cheat) if you mess this up.

Ultima 7+: Not familiar with these games.

In Ultima 6, you can have Dale from Minoc make you them. Each glass sword uses 5 peer gems. It's great to get them from him after you get all those peer gems from LB in exchange for the Wizard of Oz book.
You could probably dupe them with Animate + Clone as well.

That, of course, requires that you have at least one to begin with. The problem comes if you use them all up before you need one, though if bliznik is correct (and there's a renewable source of peer gems somewhere), that situation isn't actually a softlock.
Gems can be bought, and cheaply at that. It would be hard to imagine a situation where you couldn't scrounge up five of them.
