ULTIMA 9

I gave the smith in Trinisic 7k and 3 pieces of black rock to make a blackrock sword and when I came back the next morning he said he wasn't able to make the sword and won't give me my money back. Is this normal?

It's not clear what to do next to get the blackrock sword and I'm happy to just continue with the Trinsic plot line and see if some clues surface but I am wondering if I maybe wasn't supposed to ask the smith to make the sword yet? I'd hate to mess up the game my doing things in the wrong order.

Thanks.

yes, Rupert is behaving in a completely DISHONORABLE way. ;-)

you will get your sword. you will need to wait until after you cleanse the shrine.

Ah, and here I was believing his story about the materials being too weak to work with. That is a clever twist

Thanks
by the way--once you are finished with cleansing the shrine and everything else in Trinsic, you might want to consider doing a couple more things before you leave....

the most important thing to do is find the Bell of Courage. i personally think it is just better to get it now, rather than come back later for it, but it is totally up to you. there is a scroll of teleport to be found in the ruins of Serpent's Hold. (teleport is a fabulous spell!) let me know if you need any help on that.

second--there is a cave where you can find the Star of Britannia and a Ring of Fire scroll that you will probably like! this is one of my fave spells to cast!!! the cave is on the same island as Virgil's house. it's on the southern tip. there is a path that leads to it.

Will the game give me a clue on where to look for the bell if I wait to do it later? I don't mind coming back if that's the natural flow.

I did a pretty thorough search of the entire island, so I managed to find the Star of Britania, fire ring scroll and lighthouse gem just by stumbling across them, which was fun. Is there any purpose to the star other than trading it for a better staff? I haven't even been training staffs.

Could you give me a clue on which ruins are serpent's hold? I'm guessing it's where Dupre's ashes were but would like to know before I go searching.

The star is supposed to increase damage done while fighting just like the gem of death.

Serpent's Hold is underwater off the southeastern tip of the cape. You can walk/swim if you want. You will find broken pieces of walls and fallen statues stuff along the way. It might be easier to find if you try to pilot the ship and approach from the southern ocean. From the surface you should be able to see sunken battlements in silhouette. There are those dang piranhas swimming in the water to thwart you as well. I really hate those things! How annoying. Yes, you will be given clues to its location later, in the well of souls but at that point it could be really aggravating to have to go all the way back to trinsic and then go back to the well of souls.

And while I am on this subject, have you found the candle of love yet?

Thanks for the hint on Serpents Hold!

If I go there by ship, I assume I'll have to dive off the ship? If so, how do I get back on the ship?

I don't have the candle of love yet, just the book of truth.

I'm fine coming back for the bell of courage...I'd rather follow the game clues since it's my first play through but thanks for offering.

No worries my friend. It's totally up to you!

oh and i almost forgot--you can get back on the ship simply by swimming up to it and clicking on it. you *might* still look like you are swimming afterward but it does work. what i had to do was click as if i was going to sail the ship and i moved a bit but then i hit escape to stop and it seemed to purge the effect.

Ok, got the teleport scroll and ended up with the Bell as well. That Archmage wasn't as tough as he acted like :-)

Meant to ask about the star of Britannia, do I just need to have that in my inventory for it to work?

Yes. Though if you got the gem of death from Vasagralem, you don't really need to bother with it. Especially if you aren't doing staff training.

I thought Groldek was a blow hard too. Almost a waste of energy!
