Hey folks,

I've built a new compatibility patch.

Features:

Upgrades the 1.10 English version to version 1.11.

Upgrades the game to the Anthology Edition. Several images to match this edition style were simply copied over when possible. Some contained some spanish words but they were cleaned too using image editing software. All campaigns released only in Spain and Italy are translated and included, thanks to Warrior_Wolfsbane.

Adds a pre-configured tzar.ini configuration file to ensure that compatibility issues are mitigated.

Fixes DirectDraw compatibility issues with modern systems using cnc-ddraw v7.0. This is also pre-configured to emulate a CRT screen for authenticity. (https://github.com/FunkyFr3sh/cnc-ddraw)

Adds audio CD emulation using CDAudio proxy v2.05.87.mcifix. (https://sourceforge.net/p/dxwnd/discussion/general/thread/5acf883519/)

Only tested with the GOG version of the game. Feel free to try with other English versions of the game offered by other online stores such as Steam.

This one should be even easier to install:

1 - Make sure you have a clean installation of the GOG 1.10 English version of the game.
2 - Download the patch here: https://mega.nz/file/vMliGSZa#7CtJipo1a5o5BmS4aO43QsvPXIlxvlw73CTD5SxBomQ
3 - Execute the setup file and follow the instructions.
4 - Enjoy. Just run the game using the original GOG game shortcut.

Some time ago I've published a patch to fix compatibility issues, some people had success and I am glad I was able to help a few of them. Others not so much. Truth is, I tried my patch again after a few months and it was not working anymore. I've decided to improve and update the components that fix those issues to make it work again.

If you are curious to see what the original version looked like take a look here: https://www.gog.com/forum/tzar_the_burden_of_the_crown/tzar_110_gog_windows11_patch_cd_audio_tracks_anthology_expansions_translated_to_english

Unfortunately something doesn't work, that screen appears both launching the game from GOG or use the "Launch" function of the installer
Attachments:
dottnick, you can still launch the game using Game.exe

Thanks for pointing out the issue. I will fix it right away, the executable can only be used in my machine.
Hey i've just published a new version. dottnick can you try again?

So far so good, it seems it is working correctly now, no messages on startup, i see the added campaings, the soundtrack is working too...
i'll play for a while and give you additional reports if something strange occurs

Thank you so much for your efforts, i love this game since my childhood.
Fantastic! Glad I could help, hopefully the CRT filter is to your liking. Otherwise it can be changed in the cnc-draw config tool. As well as other options! Enjoy!
I gave it a try, i attempt to run it and im not sure if i somehow failed to follow instructions but i go to launch it and all it does is give me a error that reads.

File not found
File Name - LOCAL/strings.ini
Cannot load file strings.ini

That's the message that's shown when executing the game but it does not find the previous installation files. Make sure that when you are running the setup that the installation path is correct.
Hello, can i ask you how you managed to unpack the game files to translate them? Is there a tool avaiable? I would love to play the game in english, but otherwise keep the spanish voice acting for the campaigns.

Is that even possible?

I didn't translate them, I've credited who did it in the original post. The translated campaigns with the original Spanish voice acting is available in this forum. To answer your other question directly, there is an editor available in the game's folder.

I see, thank you so much, i learned how to use the editor and managed to place the translated text into the voiced campaigns, i guess there was no need for that, haha.

Since your are active on these forums, do you know if its possible to do a similar process in Celtic Kings and the other games by the same devs? The spanish version of Celtic Kings (called by FX Interactive as Imperivm: La Guerra Gallica) is so much better due to the entire story being voice acted.

Never played that game. My suggestion is to leave a comment in the GOG forum for that game. But my guess is that what it was applicable for this game will not be applicable for it.
