Hello,

i installed Tyranny without any problems yet after launching it i get the following error :

Failed to initialize player

Details:
Failed to initialize Direct3D.
Make sure you have at least DirectX 9.0c installed, have drivers for your
graphics card and have not disabled 3D acceleration
in display settings.
InitializeEngineGraphics failed

I do have the most recent DirectX version, also i reinstalled it just to make sure
I have the most recent graphics drivers, reinstalled them just to make sure
I double checked if hardware acceleration ids enabled, and it is

Yet i cannot launch Tyranny, any ideas?

Please reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable, it should help with the problem.
Hey Razikale,

thanks a bunch, first i installed the Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable for x64 systems and got the same error again ( though i run a 64bit win7), then i installed the version for x86 systems and it worked !

you made my day !

Sorry, should have specified it is always good to reinstall/install both version of the redist (32 and 64bit) just in case. Glad the game is working for you :).
Hello, I'm sorry to revive this old post, but I have this Direct3D problem too.
I've just bought and installed it but it won't start.

I tried to install the MVC 2012 redist x86 and x64 but it still doesn't work.
I tried to install the MVC 2013 redist x86 and x64 but it still doesn't work.
I've seen something about renaming the d3dx9.dll file, but the only dll file I have is gog-game-\d.dll.

Is there any other solution?

EDIT: After rebooting my computer, I got an infinite "Syncing Cloud Saves". After restarting Galaxy, I managed to get a window for the game but it failed at initializing the resolution (1080p), and I'm stuck there now.

Another solution for the Directx 9 / "Failed to initialize player" error:
Go to your Tyranny gamefolder and search for "d3d9.dll" and "dxgi" - delete both dlls and the game should start.

Like I said, I already tried the dll file thing, but I don't have this file in the game folders (but thanks for posting this solution here).

It doesn't really matter anymore (for me) as it started working for some reason (nothing special happened between the "not working" and "now working").
I have the same thing in 2022. Strangely enough the game can launch when I disable my internet connection. The game crashes once I enable the connection again.

Exact same issue here. Very confusing.
Same here - not start when internet is on.
Start when I turn off Ethernet.
Is there a fix for the internet issue? I cannot start the game with the internet on. If I turn it off I can play but once it is back on it crashes to the desktop.

Looks like something is wrong with the GOG installation files. I tried other solutions like delete galaxypeer64.dll or d3d9.dll, but I don't have those files in my PC. I do own the game at Steam too and it works fine. I did compare those files with GOG ones and found out, that there is one file missing is "distrib_s.unity3d". If I did copy it to the GOG install directory the game finally started.

You can try it yourself & let me know. Also it would be good to know, if Epic version has this file too.

You can download Steam file here - https://1drv.ms/u/s!AgQSCQ_MIQthgacRLvivc0A35R_iwA?e=p397cO
