I was so desperate to get this game, I forgot to make sure my computer can handle it :P
On GOG it doesn't say much about system requirements. Had I only payed attention to the release date (2007).
My PC is a ThinkCentre A52 purchased at around 2007, and it wasn't state of the art back then either. It's a Pentium 4 3.2Ghz, 1.5GB RAM and a whopping GeForce 6200 graphics card!!! ;-)
Anyhow, the game run so slow it's virtually unplayable (and lowering the settings in the game settings doesn't seem to help).
Talking about $9.99 going down the drain... Oh well, I love GOG so much I don't care :-)
I got a more robust iMac Core Duo with a legitimate copy of Windows XP, but I'm too lazy to set it up via Boot Camp.
BootCamp is smexy.. runs very little resources and games run rather smooth though it! you ca strip down an XP install to barebones and run it smooth as glass
Some of the parts in that computer aren't too bad, the underpowered part is simply the graphics card (though more memory definitely would be your friend). You could buy a quite cheap graphics card and be able to play the game fine.
About 2 years ago I bought an nVidia geforce 9500 gt, a very cheap card. It was an excellent little card that still plays all modern games and not even on the lowest settings. I would highly recommend you get a new cheap graphics card , with that system you should be able to clear most minimum specifications for new games.

Have you tried turning the graphics settings, esp. the resolution, down? I can't play it either unless I do that, but then it runs fine. =)

Yeah, it's playable now. I managed to get it working at 1024 x 768 with both graphic details and textures quality at max, and still be pretty smooth. Everything else had to go though :\
I have to say though, it's an awesome and highly addictive game!

Amen to that, I'm surprised by how many bad reviews it's received. Although steering a horse can be a major pain. =P

Note that some reviewers only played the inferior Xbox 360 version but then applied the same review and score to both versions.
As for horses, the only game to do them correctly is Mount&Blade; in every other game they are an afterthought to provide an extra bullet point for the back of the box rather than being a central component of the game, so this is to be expected.

Horses in Oblivion were easy to control, but they didn't think to add horseback combat. There's a mod for it, but it seemed pretty lame/unbalanced. Mount and Blade did a good job of horses, but overall I hated the game. =P
