I've had this game for around a year with no problems except now, out of nowhere, the graphics on Tropico 1 are all screwed up and stretchy/distorted looking.

Tropico 2 still runs fine with no problems.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game with no change. I also uninstalled, redownloaded from GOG, and reinstalled with not effect.

Any idea on what's going on? Help would be appreciated!

Okay, messed around some and got it fixed. I don't know what it does, but hitting the F10 key seemed to fix the problem.

Of course, by this point I had accidentally saved over all my old games. That sucked. But I did get the problem fixed!
I have found out that switching to software rendering fixes the problem.

Are you sure it was F10, because standard layout is as follows:

F3 Toggle 8-bit/16-bit graphics.
F4 Toggle full-screen/window mode.
F6 Decrease graphics resolution (i.e. from 1024 x 768 to 800 x 600).
F7 Increase graphics resolution.
F8 Toggle software/hardware rendering.

I would have guessed you hit F8 and toggled software/hardware rendering.

It's been so long since I had this issue that I can't recall, but I must have thought I hit F10 if I posted it. Market it as a solution only to show that this problem was solved.

Key point is - hit one of the F buttons, lol.
While F4 enables window mode which is scaled properly, it doesn't help if you want to play in fullscreen. To have non-stretched game on a wide screen, you need to enable the proper scaling in the Nvidia control panel (force GPU scaling, override game settings, type of scaling = aspect ratio). You'll still have black bars on the sides, that's obviously unavoidable, but the game itself will be properly scaled
