I decided to replay TAG using the GOG version of it and I've consistently been having problems with the dialogue text. Sometimes after I talk with a random NPC and they say their line, the text can't be continued no matter how much I press the right buttons to continue the conversation. The music plays, the background moves, the little down arrow is blinking and the game continues to work, except you can't continue or end the conversation. At that point the answer is F2, which kicks me out to the title screen and I have to waste time getting all the way back to where I got up.

This doesn't happen to any specific NPC, it just randomly happens at any point in time whenever you talk to any NPC. Though lately I've been more or less consistently freezing (though not on any particular line) when I'm talking with the Science Owl at the Angel Oak Island.

What do I do to fix this? I tried running the game in Win 95 compatability mode but it didn't really help at all.

Hello, i had this exact same issue, and asked GOG support team to help me, they answered very quickly, and they solved my problem. The instructions they gave me were exactly as follows:

Please follow these steps:
1) Please make sure that you use "Run as Administrator" to install and to start the game (right-click on the shortcut or setup file and select "Run as Administrator").

2) Please reinstall the game AND add it to your anti-virus/firewall software's exception/trusted list. Simply disabling firewall or AV software could not be enough, since some of these software are running still in background or in services list. If you are using Galaxy, then please add Galaxy as well.

3) Please download and install DirectX Web Installer:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=35

Please have in mind that this will only add DirectX 9.0c to available pool of DirectX libraries, and it will not overwrite your other versions. Some games are not able to utilize newer DirectX libraries, and they require DirectX 9.0c.

I think my problem was the DirectX thing
