Relatively regularly the game crashes at all manner of points in the game like during combat, while exploring. It seems like it is when trying to save something? with the message:

Player data archive not found at `/home/$USER/GOG Games/Tower of Time/game/TowerOfTime_Data/data.unity3d`, using local filesystemsupport/gog_com.shlib: Zeile 94: 4048 Abgebrochen (Speicherabzug geschrieben) ./"${bin_64}"

Looking into the file folder in the error mesage turns up empty. No such file "data.unity3d".
I'm having the same issue, same error message. Can't get past the first mission in the tower with the first 2 champions.

No file "data.unity3d" exists anywhere on my system.

I got the same issue, i.e. the game crashing nearly every time I start it, printing first the error message that the "data.unity3d" file was not found, then "Aborted" (or "Abgebrochen" in german, like in the first post).

In my case, it was an issue with unity3d and ALSA: It seems to crash when reading in a section of the /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf file. I posted a workaround fix at a different thread for a different game, and GOG forbids me to links to it. ("You cannot post any links at this moment"), so you have to find it yourself --

The "data.unity3d" file error is misleading. After fixing the alsa.conf issue, the Error-message about the missing file is still printed every time I start the game, but the game does indeed start and work.
