The new graphics drivers are probably the decisive factor. At the time, I was using the only AMD graphics drivers that'd run Wasteland 2. One prioritizes, and sunk-cost fallacy alone would make Wasteland 2 pretty important in this regard. (It also happens I genuinely like it.)

As of 16.04 they both work, and rather well so far. This brings me glee.
