Hi,

It looks that Steam version already received update to 18.48, whilst GOG version is still 17.84. Will there be any patches released to GOG version or should I ask for refund and buy the game on Steam?

Regards.

Yeah I hope the GOG version is gonna get official updates, too. I feel the game is a bit unbalanced in terms of difficulty.

But what's great about the DRM free version of the game is that it can be customized to a huge extent. Basically anything consists of editable .ini files (level maps, character sets, character and weapon attributes, dialogues, cutscenes). Even save games consist of editable .ini files (with parts being base64-encoded and deflate-compressed), music and sound fx files consist of .ogg files which can easily be replaced, too. The pixel art itself (character sheets and anything else) is in .PNG format. Get creative and build new levels, characters ;-)

By debugging the game, it is possible to play as "Cyber Chuck", a hidden character and by customizing it, it's even possible to play as NPCs such as the "Factory Boss" =)

Nice find. I didn't know about that. I'll check it out, as soon as I be able to get thru the first stage, as I'm either getting stuck on some object or the game freezes at the end of the level (I've tried 10 times already and I'm really fed up with these issues).

This is really unacceptable, that people who legitimately bought the game, didn't have access to official patches. I understand that this may not be entirely GOG's fault, but I bought a product which isn't working properly.

GOG, please respond if there are going to be any updates to Tower 57 here, as in version 17.84 the game isn't playable and is simply broken .

Did you try the gog galaxy client? maybe it holds ready an update to the game already? otherwise, try contacting the game's authors on twitter?
I'm always using Galaxy client. Auto-updates are enabled for this game as well. I even reinstalled the game to be sure there are no updates. The version is showed both in GOG GUI and in the bottom right corner of the game menu. Both say 17.84, which makes me upset as most of the problems were fixed in 18.24 (at least that's what changelogs say).

I have no twitter account and I'm not planing to create one just to contact them. I think that this should be handled by GOG, as the updates are there. They just aren't available via GOG, which feels like devs are completely ignoring GOG community. If the game isn't supported properly by devs on some platform, it shouldn't be sold there in my opinion. I understand that it's been only a couple of weeks since the game was released, but somehow Steam users received several patches during that time, where on GOG the game was left to rot.
I'm starting to belive Valve is paying developers under the desk to NOT update on gog.com because this is not the first time something like this happens.

So far it already happened to other three games i own:

-Luftrausers is still in a broken state and there is one component that cannot be unlocked because of a bug that has only been fixed in the Steam version and only for Beta testers

- Forced showdown misses some skins because the devs didn't bother updating the "subscriber benefit DLC" with the "Acid Ravager" and the Twitter + facebook skins for the dragon pet (they only give STEAM codes, not Gog ones, and yet the skins are there in the files) plus i belive some balancements and extra audio files.

-Armello at somepoint just stopped giving any updates (i understand the "dice skins" might be off because are a steam tradeable but what about everything else ?), plus there is not the extra characters DLC pack

I mean, if devs don't want to update their games on some platforms then should not release them in first place.
I REALLY want to know why isn't the gog version updated yet, and i really hope the devs will give us an explaination.

Sorry if i sound kinda ranty about this but i'm really SICK of devs not updating theyr games on gog.

And to gog itself: put up a policy and FORCE devs to update theyr games if they publish them here, this is unacceptable.

That's what one of the game's author has to say about it:

"As far as I know Marco submitted both builds at the same time, so it's up to GoG I think."

(have a look at the attached screenshot)

I guess we should poke gog to put it up then
While we're waiting for GOG to provide the official patch, here's one unofficial one that allows you to play as "THE CYBORG" (disclaimer: no responsibilities taken for potential damages)

The patch must be applied to tower57.exe (MD5 must be 10aa6ea9c2a3369ece72be65deaf913a) at the following file offsets:

file offset: original byte: patch:
B0361: 06 -> 07
B084D: 06 -> 07

The patch is not the cleanest but it works ;)

-> Start new game and cycle through the characters beyond the ones visible. "Cyberchuck" will be at index 6.

Enjoy!

FYI guys, looks like version 18.24 has been released on GOG on 27th of November. We're still not updated to the newest patch thou however, 18.48 seems to be implementing some multiplayer (or maybe it was in Steam version since the beginning - I don't know), so that might be the reason why 18.24 is the highest available patch here now. I'm still far from being satisfied here, cause there are some further optimizations and addons to the game in the newest patch, but at least the game should be playable now (I just installed the patch, so I didn't tested it yet).

I have no idea, if our complaints were the reason this patch was released on GOG, but I also had the impression that GOG is sometimes deliberately ignored by devs that are releasing both to Steam and GOG.

edit: Actually there seems to be a network play option in the menu (and probably was there since they released it). I'm not much of a multiplayer guy, so it wasn't focusing on that part really.

Update 19.11 is out since December, 6th on Steam. Nothing as of yet (10th) on GOG...
12. of December., 6 days after the release of an update on Steam, nothing on GOG.

New update on Steam on 21st December, still nothing on GOG
Tower 57 team response to this question:
We submitted the builds at the same time to GOG and Steam.
Steam let's oneself update the builds.
GOG updates once the builds are reviewed by them.
We as devs can't do more than submit the build. We also have wait until it gets activated by the GoG team at their own pace.
I find this delay/lack of game updates on GOG more than frustrating and I hope this'll improve in the near future.
