Hey!

Just made my first purchase on GoG: TA Commander Pack. As soon as I saw it I knew I had to buy it. I just completed the first few ARM missions and all the nostalgia came flowing back. The game looks awesome on a high resolution, and the graphics really stand up well compared to so many other games from the era. I've always preferred TA to SC, which I bought not long after release and stopped playing after a week or so. Yeah it's epic, but I think they concentrated too much on the scope of the game instead of the substance, and in the end it just felt pretty hollow. Mind you, a lot of over-hyped sequels follow this trend...

Anyway, I read some of the threads in this sub-forum and remembered the TA bugfix patch which fixed *loads* of stuff and added in Cavedog's new units, so I installed that and the game loaded up fine so I look forward to playing some more of the campaign.

Glad that the forums here are active and useful, and GoG seems a really cool site; lots of memories came back whilst scrolling through the games on offer, and I thought $5.99 (about £3.70 for me) was superb value for the Commander Pack. God knows how many hours I must have put into this game back in the day.

The only thing that disappointed me was some of the reviews for Interstate '76 Arsenal - I *really* wanted to buy it as well, but a lot of the reviews seemed to indicate that the x64 port was pretty poor and it kept crashing, so I thought I'd give it a miss for now.

Interstate '76 and MechWarrior 2 - can anyone remember when Activision used to make great games? I feel so old.

xD
Bugfix doesn't play nice with the campaign missions on this GOG release.

By the way high resolutions were already available in the stock TA (at least the 4:3 ones were, I played at 1600x1200 on a large CRT).
What's the problem with bugfix and campaigns?

To give you an example, the earthquakes in the Temblor Core Contingency missions don't work as scripted (instead you get random meteors).
I am likewise a fan of I'76 and Mech2! While there are some issues with Interstate '76, I did purchase it here since I only had the stock game back in the day (came with a Voodoo Rush card). I was able to play it through beginning to end using a Glide wrapper, it also works in software mode, on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. The only issue I faced was in the mission where you have to chase down some guy, the wobbly wheel thing made it trivial to beat it though the issue only showed up on that level for me. I was able to use CPU grabber along with setting the processor affinity to get it to be playable once again. So yes, it isn't perfect, but it worked for me and was a great trip down memory lane. in some ways a bit more so than TA since I've periodically returned to it more over the years, I'76 was a real blast!
Yeah, I only had the original game also. I got it in an Activision bundle with MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries, but I already had MechWarrior 2 (original) as it came with an old graphics card. I think it was a Matrox Mystique but I'm not 100% on that. It was definitely Matrox, though.

I'd love to see the old MechWarrior games on GoG, but I don't know if it'll happen.

How well did Interstate '76 play for you? IIRC the Arsenal pack came with a 3D graphics upgrade for the game, so obviously that would be good.

If it works for you in Windows 7 x64 (same as me) then of course I shall get it.
It did indeed work for me and if you're willing to tweak and play with it to get it working then I would go for it. However, there are plenty of forum posts indicating that it doesn't work, so I don't know... I'm running x64 with a Radeon 4850. I also was running at 640x480 with the Glide wrapper and that's all I'm remembering about it at the moment. As I mentioned, it played pretty much perfectly with a couple of exceptions that I was able to sort of tune with CPU grabber.
I've taken the plunge! xD

Wish me luck, padre. I've heard if you disable DEP for the game then it works much better.
Enjoy! We've gotta do what it takes to bring back Groove Champion!
