I'm having problems with the 3.1 patch AI that comes with the Commander pack purchase.
All the AI does is build energy/metal structures, Labs, and kbots en masse until it reaches the population max and turtles; occasionally sending out a few units. It's extremely frustrating when I want to be the one turtling and I would prefer a more aggressive enemy.

I've tried changing the AI via TAuniverses instructions by creating an AI folder and saving the AI files as DEFAULT.TXT OR METAL.TXT, etc etc, but there seems to be no change in the AI.

Do I have to do something different since this is a purchase/installation from Gog and not from a CD?

ANY help would be appreciated because I can't find enjoyment from the skirmishes anymore.

Yeah I've played a bit with skirmish a few years ago and it is boring, even for a beginner (same thing in TA:K).

As far as I know the 3.1 AI is just close to useless.

I tried some AIs on the GoG version and given that I got utterly crushed, I think it's working ^^

I think I just created a "AI" folder in the TA directory, and put the AI's files ("default", eg.) there (without changing anything, just putting what's inside the .zip files there). However, you should try to follow what's written in their readme files; sometimes it's getting a bit more complicated. Also, some AIs only work well on some types of maps, and others only react on the long run. So try with a map for which the AI has been designed (if needed). Also, most IAs have similarly named files, so you take care of creating several folders for each AI, and rename one folder as "AI" for the one you want to play against. There should be a mod to do that easily somewhere, but the links I found were dead.

I've also installed the unofficial patch 'bugfix" (http://switeck.tauniverse.com/). I don't think it necessary to get the AIs working though.
