Does anyone know if the GOG version of Total Annihliation comes with all of the downloadable units that were released by Cavedog? In particular, I'm curious about the six units that were released after the last official patch, such as the Arm FARK, Arm Flea, Arm Scarab, Core Hedgehog, Core Necro, and Core Immolator.

I am not 100 % sure, but i think they are implemented. You can also get them at tauniverse.com.

I seem to remember there being contests and new designs all the time after the release of the game.

The final patch included all of the downloadable units that were released up to that point. There were six more units released after the patch that had to be installed separately.

No I'm not finding the six units and since my system is the Mac OSX I am not shure how to install them into the Wine system .

Same Problem here... Just the usual units. Running on OSX Yosemite.

I'm not personally familiar with the OSX and/or Wine filesystems, but the way it works in Windows is fairly simple. You just need the relevant unit files, and put them in the main Total Annihilation install folder, and they should work. UnitUniverse has the six downloadable units, and a crapton of third-party ones as well, of..... varying quality, though the actual expansion content (underwater buildings, seaplanes, hovercraft, the Krogoth, etc.) isn't up for download, so if you don't have those, I don't know what to tell you unfortunately. (Third-party units might lead to crashes and conflicts, especially if you have two or more units trying to use the same construction menu slot; Conflict Crusher should/might help with that, though I don't know how it would behave under a different OS.)

I just added the additional units. First download the zip file from TA universe. Then unzip the file and take the ufo files and place them inside the Total Annhilation file. You can get there by:

applications > Total Annihilation Commander Pack.app(Right Click click open package contents) > game > Total Annihilation Commander Pack.app(Right Click click open package contents) > C drive > GOG.com > Total Annhilation (This is the file use place the UFO files with the unit/map information)
