Help - I'm about 15 floors down in the Shadow Vault dungeon and due to an untimely death and then choosing to return to the town, I've now lost my portal. I've seen a mod called the Shadow Vault elevator but am hesitant to install anything without checking with fellow GOG'ers. I also wouldn't know how to install it!

I've also found a console command list and tried the descend command but it takes me to the main dungeon (Ordon Mines rather than the Shadow Vault).

Thanks - any help appreciated.
No clue about that mod, but going to the first floor of the SV first and then typing descend ought to work. That will mark you as a cheater, though, so you'll lose access to the shared stash. If you're worried about the mod, you could just run through the first 14 floors. As long as you keep moving you should be fine, apart from the occasional Dark Zealot (which is a good reason to use the Dark Zealot Rebalance mod).
A useful trick to prevent this from happening is to open a portal every time you enter a new level. If you have the portal spell you will not need scrolls anymore so you can open portals any time you please as you progress thru the game. Then you choose to return to town, loose nothing, then use the waypoint portal from there and go to where you opened the portal. You can do this in the mine and in the vault as well.

Damn - I tried the console command before your reply (see OP) and when going back to check, have indeed lost access to the shared stash. I think I'll start again from scratch and resurrect the stash. Don't I feel like a fool now!?

Can I just get some clarification on this please? It seems I can only open one portal at a time (excluding the waypoint portal). Ideally I'd like to mix up the dungeons I visit - including map scrolls without needing to trawl through each completed floor every time. For example,

- I'm on level 10 of the SV dungeon, opened a town portal and then want to visit the Ordon mines.
- In the Ordon mines I then open another town portal as I'm in between waygates

Is there a way of returning to the SV level 10 using a portal?

Thanks and hope I'm not missing something blindingly obvious!

Indeed, you can have only one open portal. If you already have an open portal it will close without warning when you open a new one (unlike Titan Quest which warns you about that).

If you are in the SV you can go in town using a portal but you must be careful not to open another one before you return because you will loose the portal from the SV and you will have to start it from the beginning.
So to answer you question, when you open a portal in the mines you will loose the portal from the SV level 10 (you can have only one portal) and there will be no way to return there directly.

Choosing to resurrect in town will cut you from the SV (or mine) floor where you died and you will have to start allover from level 1. What I was trying to tell you is that there is a way to resurrect in town and still be able to return close to the place where you died if you take care to open a portal as you advance in the game like, for example, as you enter a new level, before/after a tough fight, etc . Your portal does not close when you die so when you resurrect in town simply use the waypoint and safely return to your portal without any xp or gold penalties.
