I had a problem with TR1 getting a Black Screen and Crashing after starting a New Game, so i asked Gidierre at Tomb Raider Forums for help in witch he helped Fixed the FMV Problem in the Game.

So, heres what you do.

1. Keep the GOG TR1 Game you Bought from the TR123 Bundle Pack, then you can also Delete the TR1 Desktop Shortcut aswell.

2. Go here, http://www.tombraiderhub.com/faq/tr1_adv.html then Re-Download Tomb Raider 1 and Unfinished Business for Windows Vista/7 32/64 bit setup v1.6 guide but Dont add Shortcuts to your Desktop.

3. Go here, http://www.tombraiderhub.com/faq/tr1.html then Download FAO: Steam, GOG, etc Collections users - download and install this Compatibility Patch then Only place the UB Shortcut onto your Desktop.

4. If you still experience a Black Screen, then Download this. NEW - In case of graphics issues, mostly concerning the FMV's playing in TR1, there is also another sequential patch which can be downloaded here to optionally apply (thanks to TRF member daventry for testing). Now place that TR1 Shortcut onto your Desktop

5. Right Click on the Shortcuts you placed at the Desktop and go to Compatibility, then Tick Run as Administrator and play your Game with FMV and all.

I have done all the things you mentioned with 1.6 thing and the screen still turns black when cutscenes are supposed to start like when starting a new game. You can press ESC during the black screen and it just skips into the game.Also with the 1.6 installer the game runs slower than the GOG version. But anyway, I searched around on how to fix the black screen but no luck. I think that GOG.com needs to release a patch or update the installer files or something. Basically the game doesn't switch to cutscenes in fullscreen, you then have to press ALT + ENTER to change to windowed mode and the cut scene eventually loads, but you can only watch in windowed mode, when you go back to fullscreen the video runs very slow and shuts down sometimes into the actual game. The game itself runs normal.

So if anybody knows a fix this black screen when cutscenes start please post here.

LOL! After a few minutes after last posting I actually found the SOLUTION!

To fix the black screen during cutscenes, here is what you need to do:

1. Go to "Tomb Raider 1+2+3" folder and then to "Tomb Raider 1" folder and delete a file called glide2x.dll
2. Then go to this website www.zeus-software.com/downloads/nglide and download nglide and the install it
3. Run Tomb Raider 1 game and now when you start new game the cutscene should start.


If any one tries tries this, post here if it worked for you

no, I never used it myself if not for testing purposes, as I didn't ever really needed to
