Parts of Tomb Raider 3 were so dark that I was using flares all the time, even with the screen brightness topped out (and draining battery).

I just discovered Gamminator at sourceforge which allows you to lighten the colors on the screen with hotkeys, and without increasing screen brightness. Then you just set it back to default when you're done. Yeah, I know there are some gamma settings somewhere, but this lets you change it conveniently on-the-fly for all games and applications. Even the dark Steam looks a little easier to read.

Problem solved!
Seems like a great little tool, but I've run into a problem with it. I was curious what the Calibration button would do exactly. It said it would check which gamma values are available on my machine. So I clicked Yes and it stated that it was successful and could use a gamma range from 1.00 to 1.01. So now the only change it can make is essentially unnoticable, and I can't change it back.

Reinstalling doesn't fix it, and it doesn't appear to leave any registry settings behind (although it does remember my hotkeys as well) so I'm not sure where these settings are being saved.

So if anyone could help, I'd appreciate it. If not, perhaps avoid the Calibration button for fear of being a numpty like me.

EDIT: Never mind, managed to find the file with the settings. I'd misunderstood it when it referred to 'your home directory,' believing it to mean the program's folder. It is instead located in Appdata\Roaming.

Not my finest moment. :D
