I say this because I'd like to buy it and play with some mates, but if it's still weeks away I'll just pop down to the local games store and pick up a bargin bin copy instead.

as it looks now, no infomation can be found on when it will apear on gog. but it does say that info will come soon. i would give it a week or so.
besides what is more importent to you? a digital download that cant be broken or a cd that might be?
I can wait a week - I'm keen to give this service a go at any rate.
And I'd backup the CD to an ISO before installing it anyway *shrug*

The key here, though, is that it's a Codemasters game. This one used StarForce DRM, which has been proven to damage Windows XP installs time and again. If they can rip that out, this game will sell like hotcakes!

They have already stated that all the original DRM is removed. I asked this in another thread just to check specifically because of the original starforce and securom that appears in some games.

I'm hoping soon seeing as the checksum for the download has been posted in another thread... :)
--EDIT--
Or maybe not, seeing as EVERY game on the boards seems to have had a download checksum posted at the same time! Never mind eh?

I hope this one will be available soon...
This game looks interesting, I like racing games. But is it leaning towards the arcade side of racing, like NFS Underground (and all NFS games after that) or is it more realistic like Race07.
From the screenshots, it looks like it's trying to aim for a balance, like Forza2 & PGR3 (on Xbox 360). I'd prefer that.
Is there a demo available.
OMG new suggestion - demo's of each game so we can try before we buy. Not that $10 is a huge investment lol

TRD3 will be available in our games catalogue next week (September 30, 2008). :)

I haven't played Forza or PGR, so I don't know how it compares with them, but I've tried this out on GameTap and I'd say it aims for a bit of a balance, but is still very much towards the NFS side of the scale, and pretty far from the RACE 07 side. As in it does expect you to use the brakes on occasion and point the steering wheel in the right direction, but it's not too picky about you doing much more than that, and it's pretty much expected that you'll win a race your first time out on a new track, in a new car. It's a bit more simmy than the followups DIRT(-drifter) and GRID, where they stopped expecting you to use the brakes anymore, but it's still pretty arcadey, and focuses more on licensed cars, graphics, and FMV cutscenes than on physics.
I didn't actually play it too much, so maybe it improves, and I did like the go-karting in it. Be warned that to play all of the cars and tracks you'll have to play through the entire game to unlock them, or pay Codemasters some money for a unique per-copy cheat code.
And there is a demo out!

Cool, thanks for the input! I'll try out the demo and see if it's worth purchasing. GRID was a bit too much on the arcadish side for me. I didn't like the feel of the cars too much.
I would say TOCA3 was a long shot from being nearly as arcadey as any of the games like GRID/DiRT. I found it very enjoyable and I'm a physics nazi when it comes to racing games. At least they didn't go "sim" like GT4 did. GT5:Prologue hasn't shown me much better yet either... if you really want the best racing game out there, it's probably still GT3 (for the whole physics package). But considering that TOCA3 is going to be $10 from here, I'd say its worth it, 110% to just buy it. A ton of different racing styles all pretty accurately portrayed, and plenty of fun racing to be had, single player or not. Now if I could just get myself to stop racing Bathurst!
Is this game better played with a wheel and pedal system or can you get away with a pc playstation 2/3 controller?
I have this on PS2, and it works well with a GamePad.

I've played all the way through Race Driver 2 and I've just installed and played Race Driver 3 for a few minutes. It looks to me like they've mainly updated the content, I think the physics and car handling are very similar between these two games.
I recommend a wheel and pedals for Race Driver 3. If you are going to use a controller I would recommend using an analog stick for the gas and brake. What I had to learn to do well in Race Driver 2 was how to feather the throttle and figure out how quickly you can put down the power when exiting a turn. This varies from car to car, in lighter weight cars like open-wheel racers it was easy to give it too much gas in slow corners and have the rear end break loose. I think this would be easier to control with an analog thumbstick instead of trying to tap the gas button on the controller through a turn, but I think is works best with analog gas and brake pedals.
This goes for braking too, on a wide variety of tracks and cars in Race Driver 2 if put the pedal all the way down quickly you just lock up the brakes.
