So I grabbed Titan Quest when it was on sale, and I've been taking it for a test drive. My character is now Lv 8, and so far I dig pretty much everything about this game EXCEPT... the looting. It hurts.

I've almost certainly been spoiled by the Torchlight games, and having the ability to just send a pet to town to sell my stuff while I keep going. Also, every item occupies one square/space, so I needn't take time to rearrange my loot *just* to fit in some more loot before porting back to town (or sending my pet). Titan Quest has *none* of that; when I clear a cave or tomb, I find myself stopping in my tracks to make 3-4 trips to town before I can go on exploring and fighting. These loot-sell trips are SO frequent that it hurts; every time I hear "Your inventory is full," I respond with an exasperated sigh. Looting shouldn't be the most painful part of a loot-grab game, should it?

Just FYI, I've been filtering out gray items since the very first town. I may even start filtering out white items, if I keep playing, but that's a big "if". The problem is, how else am I supposed to raise the tens of thousands of gold needed for the good stuff at shops, if I don't grab and sell everything I find?

Is there a patch or mod out there to mitigate this? Even having a bigger inventory would help (and given the huge blank space just below my character stats that as of yet serves no purpose, I don't see why it can't be done).
I'd recommend that you filter out white items completely and only pick up yellow items. And even that only till you got decent gear at which point you can focus on picking up the good stuff (green, blue and eventually purple).
Many mods also convert yellow items to white for this very reason.

Also check here:

However, it is for 1.48; not 1.51

Btw, for this very reason I was considering to do a mod to basically remove the money factor from the game.

The powerful shaman, the first boss, and the monsters around the horse would drop 100 millions or so of gold. And no other gold in the game at all.

I may not be understanding your post but thought I would point this out in case you are missing it. Titan quest does have a portal system. Your character has a portal button in the top right hand corner of the screen. It's right under the map, a small purple circle. Click on that to get a portal anytime you need one. Then when you are done in town you can go to the waypoint and go back to wherever you opened the portal. Hope that helps.

I'm well aware of the Portal button and its function, thank you. The issue I had was the frequency with which I had to USE it. Seriously, clearing out one little tomb required me to portal back to town 4-5 times before I could go on with the game, due to the sheer amount of loot (not counting grays) and your painfully limited inventory space. Looting in Titan Quest brings the game to frequent, grinding halts; when I wound up sighing and saying "Here we go again..." at every pile of loot I saw, that's when I quit playing.

Ah I see. Well I can't remember when you get them but as you progress a few of your quest rewards are bags that increase the amount your character can hold. So that will help a bit in the long run.

I am very discriminating as to what I pick up--have multiple loot bags, etc.--and I take advantage of the storage chests that allow you to transfer stuff to other levels in the game without having to carry it. When you finish a battle just hit the Z key as a toggle to highlight the stuff on the ground--items are color-coded--as such it is very easy *not* to pick up redundant and/or low-level junk just to take up room in your inventory. There is a *reason* the inventory is identified and color coded, you know...;) Basically--don't pick up a lot of junk because you don't want to take a couple of seconds to look at what you are picking up and you should be fine. Inventory is a part of many games, not just this one. May be confining, so that's why you have to be discriminating. Later on in the game loot becomes superfluous once you gain a decent level of proficiency.
I have this obsessive compulsive disorder too which was horrible in fallout 4 and skyrim. When you reach the end game you realize how little value these items are since its so easy to find even more valuable items worth much more in the mid to late game. In fact, other games like fallout 3 and new vegas had me spending time walking long distances overloaded and all. Pity you can't develop the 'late game' frame of mind when you're early in the game. This issue resolves itself, I've moved beyond China and my obsession is now hoarding stuff and trying to pass my level 25 stuff to the level 12 other characters I've made, who can't use that hardware

Just play on, the empty and bland area you mention where they could and should add inventory via a patch:

It's purpose is exactly for this, just not via patch. You will get your first extra inventory space bag when you reach Timon in Megara, and afterwards there will be some more that will be unlocked, it's part of the normal Gameplay process and has already been like that in the very base version of the game :)
